LHS Sunday All Call for October 17th:
Good evening LHS students and parents. This is principal Megan Meschery with your weekly All Call. First and foremost, all of us at LHS would like to thank you for your amazing shift to online learning this last week and a half. We feel confident that this reset and the testing efforts by our school and county communities have put us at a positive place to open back up. We are really hopeful that with universal mask-wearing and keeping students home when not feeling well, we will be able to stay open.
Tomorrow is a “B” Day with our usual schedule.
Some important dates to mark on your calendars are the following:
On Wednesday, October 20th from 5:30-6:30 LHS is hosting Financial Aid Night for seniors. We will be assisting families in filling out their FAFSA forms for federal and state financial aid, so please bring your 2020 tax returns so you can complete the form that night.
Seniors are heading to the UNR Knowledge Center, AKA the library, on Thursday, October 21 to jumpstart their senior project research paper.
Picture retakes are now set for November 4th.
Homecoming is back in action the week of October 25th through the 30th. The schedule of events continues with the parade on Saturday at 10:00 and the Homecoming Game starting at 1:00 with the crowning ceremony and senior football and cheer appreciation happening during halftime. We will post a new schedule of events on our website and facebook page once we determine any necessary changes.
Sports are back with gusto this week! Middle School volleyball has a volleyball Jamboree at 4:00 in Portola on Tuesday and our Flag Football Team plays at 1:00 on Saturday here at home against Quincy.
High School sports has a big week starting Monday with JV and Varsity Volleyball playing Portola here at home at 5:00 and Soccer playing Portola away. Soccer playoffs begin Tuesday. Varsity Volleyball travels to Herlong on Tuesday and to Westwood on Wednesday, with their playoffs on Thursday. Our fabulous football team travels to Excel Christian on Saturday.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and Go Grizzlies!

District All-Call 10/11/21:
Good evening Sierra-Plumas families. This is Superintendent James Berardi with an important message about returning to school and testing.
As you all know, we are planning on returning to in-person instruction next Monday the 18th.
In order to return to school as safely as possible, the school district along with our local health department and the California Department of Public Health will be offering a no-cost Antigen, 15-minute testing for all students, staff and their families. The state is sending in their official outbreak team to assist in this process as our county’s positivity rate has reached a point of concern.
In addition, a community wide testing day will be set up as well.
Please know that it is our goal to get our schools open and to keep them open. The more individuals tested, helps establish a baseline of how we are doing prior to the re-opening.
On the East side of the county we will be offering testing at the Loyalton High School Gym on Thursday the 14th from 2 to 7PM for students, staff and their families. If needed, the PCR test will be available for both days.
On Friday the 15th, we will be offering community members the opportunity to receive the same 15-minute Antigen test at the LHS Gym from 9AM to 5PM.
In Downieville, there will be testing in the school cafeteria on Wednesday the 13th from 9 to noon and again from 1 to 6 PM. Both the rapid and PCR test will be available.
I thank you all for assisting us in staying safe and getting our doors back open.
Have a great evening.
