LHS Parents: Here is the transcript of the important all-call that will go out @ 3:45pm today ~Mr. Jones
______________________________________________
Hello Loyalton High School Parents and Students, this is Mr. Jones with an important announcement.

First, I hope that you and your family, and your extended family are well during these historically troubling times. A transcript of this call will be posted on the SPJUSD facebook page.

I know I speak for the entirety of the LHS staff when I say that we are saddened by the need to not meet face to face. Your families’ and our families’ safety are paramount. Following the guidance from the State and Federal government, we will be switching our instruction to a distance learning model. How long will this last? It is uncertain at the moment. For now distance learning must be in place until April 17th and to be honest, it is possible that it could go longer.

Teachers are already starting to form their plans for this transition while also trying to keep the needs of your students in mind. Teachers will be planning both virtual lessons, for those with access, and packet assignments for those without. Distribution of assignments, and possibly equipment, will take place on our bussing system for those out of Loyalton Proper. For those in Loyalton Proper, you’ll be prompted by an all-call to come to the school to pick up your assignments or equipment. The bus routes will run the normal routes and make stops at the normal stops to meet up with students. An all-call in the future will notify you when this will begin. Social distancing will be very important when coming to the school and bus stops to collect or drop off work. We ask that if you or anyone in your family is feeling symptoms of COVID-19, please stay away from collection points or the school. Again an all-call will signal you when the process will start.

Teachers are calling home now conducting a needs survey. We are seeking information to see if your household:
a) has access to the internet and;
b) has access to a viable device for computing and;
c) which bus route time preference your family has to meet the bus for work distribution and collection. The morning route or evening route.

You may email me at tjones@spjusd.org or call the office attendance line and leave a message with the answer to those three questions if you’d like if you have not already been contacted by a staff member.

The plan is to have staff assemble the work and material needed, and we’ll transport the work to your student’s bus stops for collection. Once your student has work, it is super important for their education, that they create a daily routine to work on assignments. Their work will either be digital or some hard print form depending on family need. Once completed, students can return work on the next scheduled bus. Students in Loyalton Proper will have a designated turn-in point at the school. Additionally, students will be turning in assignments virtually.

Teachers will communicate office hours so that you and your student may communicate directly with teachers to obtain help, discuss the assignments, or just to touch base.

There are many tools at our disposal to link with with teachers virtually. Our Google Apps for Education has access to video conferencing with teachers and many other collaborative features to get and turn in work. Through the student’s school google account will be the easiest and most interactive educational experience they can with their teachers. It will be important for students to know their google logins for their school gmail account. Additionally, teachers will be using Zoom a video conferencing company that has graciously allowed k-12 school to use free accounts during this time.

If students need assistance with their school accounts they can email me or call me at the school anytime.

I will have another call with information that will go out Monday night with more information on when work distribution will begin.

Thank you so much for your patience. This is a system I’d would have never thought our schooling system would need to develop. There will be better times ahead and we pledge to work hard to provide learning to your student given these trying circumstances.

We’re Grizzlies and we can do anything, have a good night and I’ll touch bases with you again on Monday night. If you have any questions feel free to email or call me.
